Would putting Styrofoam on a wall, help dampen sound so that we don't bother the neighbors?

We're trying to soundproof, or at least dampen the sound as much as possible for practicing with the band. We'd be in a basement, furthest away from the neighbors, in a duplex. Do you think that this would help?
